What is happening?

January 2025: Three bills just got approved in the Wyoming House of Representatives that would HURT education in our state. But… they also need to be passed by the Senate in order to become laws. The three bills are House Bill 100 - K-12 Uncertified personnel (HB0100); House Bill 199 - Wyoming Freedom Scholarship Act (HB0199); and House Bill 200 Parental rights-amendment (HB0200).

Read below for a quick information guide on each of these bills and the concerns educators have regarding them. Below each Quick Guide is a script you can use as an example to email, call, or text your Senators.

QUICK GUIDE:

House Bill 100 (HB0100)…

❌ Removes certification requirements for teachers, admins, and school district employees.

❌ Anyone 18+ who passes a background check can be hired

Why should I care?

  • QUALITY. Wyoming children deserve qualified teachers. Certification weeds out the folks not fit for instructing our children. Teachers MUST know their content. State certification is essential.

  • CLASSROOM SKILLS. Being responsible for teaching 16-25+ children at a time is HARD WORK. It takes practice, observation, and mentorship. Certification is essential.

  • DEDICATION. Teacher turnover is detrimental for student learning. Certification programs increase commitment to teaching.

Why should I care?

  • TEACHER BURDEN. Teachers are NOT trying to hide their lessons. We just want them to learn. Requiring every lesson and worksheet to be published online is unrealistic. We have thousands of files. Financially burdening them for each “violation” is even worse.

Subject: VOTE NO HB0200

Dear Senator __________,

I urge you to VOTE NO on HB0200.

Teachers will be burdened by this bill. Teachers are NOT trying to hide their lessons. They really just want kids to learn. Requiring every lesson and worksheet (paper and electronic) to be published online is unrealistic. Teachers use thousands of files. The bill also allows teachers to be sued every time parents feel this bill has been violated. Financially burdening teachers with fines will decrease teacher morale and will HURT our public schools and our kids.

Please VOTE NO on HB0200.

Respectfully,
